Our buddy Benny over at Tenacious Toys had a few questions for Dov about what’s up with the SUCKLE Kickstarter. With only 5 days to go there is time to get in a pledge.

As always, Dov goes beyond the yes and no answers to get to the meat of what’s up with Designer Toys!

Death Goes Pop
50 paintings of pop culture icons by Mike Egan
July 17 – July 21, 2013 San Diego Comic-Con
DKE Toys booth #5045
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: “Death Goes Pop” is a special exhibition of 50 individual 7” x 7” original acrylic and shellac paintings on wood by artist Mike Egan. It features portraits of pop culture icons done in the artist’s signature style. Using his usual palate of blood and death Mike created 50 original works in his very focused folk technique.
These creative interpretations include visages of comic book heroes, classic monsters, plus many favorite movie and cartoon stars. “Death Goes Pop” will be on display and for sale in the DKE Toys booth (#5045) at San Diego Comic-Con. The paintings will retail for $75 each and will go on sale on Thursday, July 18th.

In addition to the original art DKE is proud to present the first book of Mike’s work also entitled, “Death Goes Pop”. This special edition of 100 copies is signed and numbered on a letterpressed bookplate and includes a hand embellished screen print. This hardcover compendium of the 50 paintings will retail for $25.

DKE Toys produced Mike’s first toy, BONES, which debuted at San Diego Comic-Con in 2012 to much acclaim. It is currently nominated for a Designer Toy Away for Best Sofubi. The second toy in the line, LUCKY, will release at San Diego Comic-Con this year and will retail for $60 and come in both black and orange just as BONES did last year. Edition is limited to 100 total for both colors. Made of beautiful Japanese vinyl.
Mike Egan will make his first trip to San Diego Comic-Con this year. He will be signing at the DKE Toys booth Thursday, July 18th at 1pm and Saturday, July 20th at 4pm.

“Death Goes Pop” is produced by DKE Toys. Dov and Sarah Jo have produced several art shows together including; The Vader Project, The Super Suck Up, STUFFED, a plush food show, and Skin Deep by Scott Wilkowski.
Mike Egan received his BFA from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He subsequently received a diploma in funeral directing & embalming from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. While working in funeral homes for five years, Mike developed his own style of painting. Although he is no longer working in funeral homes, his time spent working as a funeral director/embalmer greatly influences his paintings today. www.eganpaintings.com http://mikeegan.tumblr.com

Suckadelic and DKE Toys crush Kickstarter goals for S.U.C.K.L.E. Series 1 Mini Figures
and add 5 additional figures to the line including Suck Shark, Carrator, Karate Chump, Chop Suey,
and “Sad… Alone… Broken…” by Luke Chueh
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Last night DKE Toys sent out an update for the S.U.C.K.L.E. Kickstarter:
15th Figure SNEAK PEAK!!!
Update #9 · Jul 7, 2013
We are so close to our last “Suck Goal” that we have decided to share the 15th figure a little early. The 15th figure will be Luke Chueh’s “Sad… Alone… Broken…” figure from the 2012 Super Suck Up show. Each pledge of $40 or more will have a 15th figure added to their Kickstarter Exclusive Clear and GID sets. That is now a total of 40 figures for $40 and up pledges. We have a week left so this is all but guaranteed.

15th figure will be based on Luke Chueh’s “Sad… Alone… Broken…” from the 2012 Super Suck Up Show
To be clear, if you have already pledged or pledge now at least $40 you will now receive an ADDITIONAL exclusive set of all 15 S.U.C.K.L.E. figures in Glow In the Dark. So $40 gets you 2 sets of 15 figures each in Clear & Glow In the Dark + the original set of 10 in “flesh” for a total of 40 figures. Clear and GID will ONLY be made available through Kickstarter and the additional 5 “Suck Goal” figures are not currently available in any other colors. All the new “Suck Goals” apply to pledges of $40 or more, so please consider increasing your pledge if you haven’t already.
A note for Luke Chueh fans: a $40 pledge will get you both available “Sad… Alone… Broken…” figures.
From the original press release:
At San Diego Comic-Con 2012 DKE Toys debuted the first 5 sculpts of The Super Sucklord’s mini figure line, S.U.C.K.L.E. (Simply Unimportant Collectable Kitschy Little Eyesores). Sculpted by George Gaspar/October Toys.
The Super Sucklord and his brand Suckadelic have been making custom resin art “toys” for over 10 years. Classic vintage toys have always been a huge inspiration for his work. S.U.C.K.L.E. pays homage to the classic mid-eighties toy line M.U.S.C.L.E. by Mattel. The figures are roughly the same size and made similarly out of solid color injection molded PVC plastic. Each of the Suckadelic characters will be immortalized in the same mini wrestler style as the original M.U.S.C.L.E. figures and stand approximately 2 inches tall. If you are already a M.U.S.C.L.E. collector these figures should display perfectly with your vintage figures.
Since San Diego Comic-Con 2012, 5 new sculpts were created, bringing the total to 10 unique figures for SUCKLE Series 1.
The ten figures in Series 1 will include: Sucklord 66, Sucklord 43, Sucklord 16, Ass Wipe, Necromancer, Galactic Jerkbag, Ira Tyranusberg, Another Bitch, Vectar, and Gay Empire.
Through this Kickstarter DKE Toys and Suckadelic hope to fund the production line of these figures so that they can be made available to stores around the world and create the basis for a line that can continue to recreate ALL the characters in the Suckadelic universe.
KickStarter Reward levels start at $5 and go up to $1,166. Read all about it on the SUCKLE Kickstarter page and pledge up! Get everything from the Sucklord’s scorn and bitterness to the exclusive Kickstarter colorway (clear). Even if you don’t pledge, just go watch the video. You won’t be disappointed.
Pledge today through July 15th at 10pm PST!
