Stripewok by Little Lazies
Meet Stripewok! Each piece is hand sculpted by Leah Lester of Little Lazies. No two are exactly the same but they are so close to one another that it’s kind of hard to imagine that they aren’t cast and she made 30 of them!!! The 2” figures are signed and numbered on the bottom of the figure and carded in a package she designed and are only $55. Don’t get them wet and don’t feed them after midnight.
Bio: Little Lazies are weird, little, clay creatures made by Leah Lester, a monster maker living in Seattle, WA. How did it all start? Leah was a full time cake decorator who very much enjoyed sculpting out of edible paste for the cakes she created. One sunny day in June 2010 she said to herself, “I want to make a monster for the top of this cake!” So she did just that… Soon after, her friends started encouraging her to create these characters into clay; something that they could keep for a lifetime. So with that, Leah bought some clay and with lots of practice, experimenting, character developing and imagination her monsters evolved into what they are today – the Little Lazies!

DKE Toys Limited Edition Space Rat
Action Figure Art Series Premieres at SDCC 2018
11 artists interpret a classic toy favorite
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
It took DKE Toys a long time to figure out what to do with a galactic sized pile of vintage Kenner Salacious Crumb action figures from the original toy line. Behold, the limited edition Space Rat Action Figure Art Series.
DKE Toys invited 11 artists to lend their skills to interpret our favorite Space Rat. Each artist created an original painting of the character for the packaging. Affixed to each card back is an authentic Kenner Salacious Crumb action figure from 1983. Each card back is signed and numbered by the participating artist out of 100. All 11 package styles will premiere at SDCC for $25 each. Or, deal alert, get all 11 different designs for $200. That’s like 3 free Space Rats. For those collectors wanting the completed series, figures numbered 1-20 will be available at the show as matching numbered sets.
“San Diego Comic Con is the largest event DKE Toys exhibits at. There are so many people and so much to see and so much “noise” that it’s really hard to stand out,” said Dov Kelemer. “We strive to create an experience in our booth that is unique and elevates artists.”
SDCC runs July 18-22. Find DKE Toys in the corner booth #5045.

DKE Toys
@dketoys

Bio: DKE Toys: Dov Kelemer & Sarah Jo Marks are Co-Founders of DKE Toys which was the largest independent wholesale distributor of designer toys, limited edition art objects, collectibles, and gifts in the world exclusively representing hundreds of artists, designers, and boutique manufacturers. As of February 1st, 2016 the wholesale distribution arm of the business was sold to Disburst Ltd.
Currently DKE Toys does about 4 conventions a year in which artists from all over the world create limited artist edition figures. Each piece is generally made out of hand poured resin and many are hand painted on custom printed (and sometimes hand drawn) card backs. Sometimes as many as 20 different artists participate in a given show. Many have commented that the DKE booth at these various shows look like a small art exhibition. While these figures are generally referred to as “bootlegs” they are far from pirated versions of mass marketed toys.
Each of these artists use transformative properties in their work to communicate ideas that are often political, parody, or commentary about the pop culture world we live in. Also please do not be confused by the word “toy”. These are works of art!!! Do not give to a child to play with. They will break, get ruined, and hurt your children physically and emotionally.
In addition Dov handles vendor relations and product development part time for Disburst as well as curates art shows, writes books, appraises and buys collections and toy closeouts of all shapes and sizes.
Designer Con is this weekend. Come through and see DKE Toys along with 400 other vendors slinging all the best in Designer Toys, art, books, apparel and more. It’s sure to be a swell time and a superb place to get your holiday shopping done.
DKE Toys will be set up at Designer Con at the Pasadena Convention Center Nov 11-12. Booth #812

Le Lutteur by Kjelshus Collins
Artist Kjelshus Collins has created Le Lutteur which is based on a Mexican wrestler figure. He hand cast and painted these 4″ tall figures and carded them on a backing card with one of his paintings. Signed and numbered edition of 25
Kjelshus “KJ” Collins is a multi-disciplinary artist and educator based out of Oklahoma City. He studied ceramics, casting, and art history at Oklahoma State University earning a BFA and BA in 2006. Much of his childhood was spent traveling in a truck around the United States attending large arts festivals with his family displaying and selling paintings. Kjelshus was first introduced to traditional printmaking at OSU and continued to study this craft after undergrad through other institutions such as the Oklahoma Arts Institute. Aside from printmaking and ceramics, Kjelshus has used the “toy” as an artistic vessel to further explore the relationship with adulthood and the childhood remnant, as well as blurring the line between handmade two dimensional works on paper and hand cast three dimensional sculpture. Though he has seen the world, he still resides, teaches, and works in his studio in Oklahoma.

VIP Citizen Trump – Diamonds and Gold by Nick C. Kirk.
“The VIP Citizen Trump series started as wheat paste propaganda graffiti on the streets on New York. Wanting to accurately describe Trump to the people in something other than the presidential suit, Nick came up with the riot gear concept, a representation of fighting the people.” Nick hand cast and painted this 5″ resin figure on a 6×9 cardback. The riot gear is painted 24k gold and the VIP shield is dusted with diamonds. Signed and numbered edition of 13. $95 each
Nick works in an array of traditional and contemporary methods of drawing, sculpting, printmaking, painting, installation and interactive works which push the boundaries into contemporary mediums. Visually, Nick’s work is anything but traditional, as he juxtaposes imagery from mass-production, the world of advertisement, and pop-culture. Sometimes he draws his visual language from the commercials preserved in childhood nostalgia or ripped from the 24-hour news cycle. He uses scale and contradiction as a means to highlight opinions that often go unquestioned. Nick seeks to deliver an experience that engages his audience with a dose of cynicism sprinkled with irony and taken with a spoonful of humor. In the end Nick asks the audience to question the status quo of society – to confront the compliance of culture and current affairs, and he uses the vibrant mass-media visual aesthetic to do so.
The VIP Citizen Trump series all started as wheat paste propaganda graffiti on the streets on New York. Nick worked with his crew – WWG – World Wide Guerillas, pasting anti Trump work around the 5 boroughs. “I’m surprised there isn’t more anti Trump work being made and posted up in the city. It’s like people are getting complacent with this guy, it’s awful”. Wanting to accurately describe Trump to the people in something other than the presidential suit, Nick came up with the riot gear concept, a representation of fighting the people. He then changed the front of the shield to say “VIP”. “The VIP shield sums up what Trump thinks about America. Americans are better than everyone and not everyone can get in. It’s just like the concept of getting into a bar or nightclub. If you’re cool enough, important enough or pretty enough, you get to enter.. otherwise, take a hike. I mean we’re about to build the great wall of America because of this guy. It’s going to be in the history books and something Americans are known for.. dividing the world and keeping your neighbor out of your yard”. The VIP Citizen Trump is an ongoing series that will continue in the form of street art, 2 and 3 dimensional art as well as some performance art that is soon to come to the streets of New York.

Buzzard guts has two pieces for this show. The first is an 80s throwback.
He says “In the 80’s I rented a lot of videos from the local video store. I’d get a lot of different things but was always looking for movies that were more like Star Wars. One day I thought how cool would it be if all movies were like Star Wars. Within that thought a universe was created.” From this alternate reality Buzzard Guts presents a slice of nostalgia representing a charming tale of first love between an eternally optimistic Jawa and a sophisticated Astromech droid.
