May 16, 2007\u00a0(Los Angeles, CA)– The Vader Project, a reimagining of the iconic Darth Vader helmet by some of today’s hottest pop and underground artists, will have its World Premiere\u00a0May 24 to 28th, 2007\u00a0at\u00a0Star Wars\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Celebration IV\u00a0<\/strong>, a landmark event being held at the Los Angeles Convention Center to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars . The five-day event is expected to attract more than 25,000 Star Wars fans from around the world (\u00a0www.gencon.com\/2007\/swciv\u00a0<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The Vader Project is presented by Master Replicas Inc. and curated by Dov Kelemer of DKE Toys. Kelemer gathered 75 of the hottest underground and pop surrealist painters, artists\u00a0and designers to participate.\u00a0 Each artist\u00a0was given a\u00a0Master Replicas 1:1 scale prop replica of the actual Darth Vader helmet\u00a0used in the Star Wars films. Each helmet served as\u00a0a blank canvas for each artist\u00a0to paint, design, mash up, and customize.<\/p>\n

Artists include Shag, Paul Frank Sunich , Mr Cartoon, Frank Kozik, Marc Ecko, Amanda Visell, Tim Biskup, J. Otto Seibold, Gary Baseman, Joe Ledbetter, Jeff Soto\u00a0and many more. Many of these artists jumped at the chance to lend their talents to one of the most iconic\u00a0pop culture characters in film history.<\/p>\n

Keith Bornholtz, Vice President of Consumer Marketing for Master Replicas, said, “We are pleased to provide this excellent canvas to this group of talented international artists\u00a0and introduce them to their new intergalactic fans.”<\/p>\n

“This could not be a timelier event,”\u00a0Kelemer said. “The\u00a0pop surrealist\/lowbrow\/graffiti\/designer art scene\u00a0is exploding around us.\u00a0A canvas is what you make it,\u00a0from bunnies to\u00a0cows to toilet seats. The ‘platform’ group show has been around, and we have seen it all.”<\/p>\n

Ugly Doll co-creator David Horvath said it best: “It ‘s Darth Vader!!!\u00a0It ‘s the\u00a0most recognizable character\u00a0in the universe. After this\u00a0exhibition we don’t ever need to be in a platform show again.”<\/p>\n

After the premiere at\u00a0Star Wars\u00a0<\/strong>Celebration IV\u00a0<\/strong>the\u00a0plan is for exhibition to travel to\u00a0museums, galleries, and events around the world. The helmets will then be offered publicly at auction.\u00a0Details will be announced later.<\/p>\n
