Opens the Vault For Heritage Auctions<\/strong>
DKE Toys makes history March 4 with major\u00a0<\/em>
stand-alone auction of designer toys<\/em>

The DKE Toys Archive Auction\u00a0is set to make history as master collector Dov Kelemer presents the world\u2019s first stand-alone sale of designer and art toys from dozens of artists, designers, and creators. With bidding now open, and the live auction set for\u00a011am PST\/1pm CST March 4, this event is already considered a watershed sale by the toy collecting community.

The DKE Toys Archive event is filled with collectible works created from the inception of the designer toy scene in the early 2000s until today. This is not only a history of DKE Toys but a chronology of the designer toy movement. Its breadth only reflects Kelemer\u2019s wish to give fellow collectors access to the hobby\u2019s most sought-after works \u2013 among them 2002\u2019s\u00a0Invasion Kit #1: Albinos\u00a0<\/em>by Invader, which is\u00a0considered a seminal piece by street-art collectors.

“Each of the 160 lots offered in this online event is a coveted highlight among collectors,\u201d Kelemer says, \u201cand includes some of the most renowned artists working in the scene.\u201d\u00a0

Look no further than Frank Kozik, who single-handedly revived the rock poster scene in the 90s, who turned his attention to art toys only to later become chief creative officer for Kidrobot. More than three dozen lots of his pieces are highlighted in this event, among them are complete sets of his landmark large scale bust series,\u00a0Ho Chi Minh<\/em>\u00a0(set of 12, 2007),\u00a0Dead Che<\/em>\u00a0(set of 13, 2010),\u00a0Ludwig Van<\/em>\u00a0(14 color ways offered individually, 2008),\u00a0Gipper<\/em>\u00a0(set of 13, 2012), and\u00a0Big Army Man\u00a0<\/em>(set of 11, 2009). Here, too, collectors will find his painted fiberglass stool\u00a0Stache Happy Labbit Stool (White)<\/em>,\u00a0a recent piece, and one of his most iconic Kidrobot offerings,\u00a0RedRum Dunny<\/em>\u00a0from 2008.\u00a0

Kozik also appears among the artists involved in this jam session lasting six years, from 2004-2010:\u00a0Circus Punks<\/em>, 19 pieces designed by the likes of Ron English, Gary Baseman, Joe Ledbetter, Thomas Han, UPSO, SHAG, Reuben Rude, NYC Lase, Craola, Bob Dob, Tokidoki, Wonderland War and Voltaire.\u00a0Circus Punks<\/em>\u00a0is nothing short of an all-star line-up of fabulous furry freaks.

Ron English is here in collaboration with The Showroom NYC for 2004\u2019s\u00a0MC Supersized (Glow in the Dark)<\/em>. That was the same year the artist created the character, based on a certain fast-food mascot, for director Morgan Spurlock\u2019s documentary\u00a0Supersize Me<\/em>. In due time, bootlegs of MC Supersized became wildly popular in China; this one, of course, is the real deal.

Graffiti artist Futura, who once made subway stations his canvas and shared stages with the Clash during the band\u2019s 1981 European tour, remains the rock star of the art toy world. Heritage is thrilled to include in this event one of each of his iconic painted vinyl pieces from 2005:\u00a0Nosferatu<\/em>. The auction will also feature Futura X adFunture\u2019s circa-2008 collaboration\u00a0FUTURA Tag<\/em>.

Most of the pieces here are limited editions, among them 2005\u2019s\u00a0Andy Mouse (Red)<\/em>\u00a0from The Estate of Keith Haring X 360 Toy Group; The Sucklord\u2019s deeply coveted two-piece\u00a0Sucklord 600 (AFA graded)<\/em>. And of course no sale of collectible toys would be complete without an offering from KAWS, in this case 2007\u2019s\u00a0Darth Vader<\/em>.\u00a0

\u201cWe expect the sale to break multiple world records,\u201d says Leon Benrimon, Heritage Auctions\u2019 Vice President of Modern and Contemporary Art. \u201cMany of these items are coming up for the first \u2013 and, possibly, the last time \u2013 at auction.\u201d
